With a high participation, the fifth version of the Summer School of Mine Planning and Operations Delphos 2022 was successfully carried out virtually, organized by the Delphos Mine Planning Laboratory, a joint unit of the Department of Mining Engineering and the Advanced Mining Technology Center (AMTC), in partnership with the Geological Engineering Laboratory (EGL), aimed at engineering students in the mining area.

The Delphos Mine Planning Laboratory congratulates its former director Nelson Morales Varela on his new position as professor in the Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering (Département de Génies Civil, Geologique et des Mines, CGM) of Polytechnique Montreal, Canada.

Nelson Morales is a mathematical civil engineer from the University of Chile in 2002 and PhD in science from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis in 2009. He was director of Delphos between 2010 and 2021, fulfilling an outstanding work at the head of the laboratory, positioning it internationally. The professor answers our questions and tells us about his career, the Delphos Laboratory and his future expectations.

On January 25^th, 2022, the student of Master in Mining of the Delphos Laboratory, Pablo Reyes, passed his degree exam, defending his thesis titled "Construction of methodology for evaluation of five-year mining plans considering multiple power sources and metallurgical variables". The evaluation committee was made up of Nelson Morales Varela, Enrique Jélvez Montenegro and José Delgado Vega.
