During the 07th and 09th of August, the Sixth International Conference on Geology and Mine Planning, Geomin-Mineplanning 2019, an event organized by Gecamin and in whose organizational and technical committees participated the director of the Delphos Laboratory and deputy director of the AMTC, Dr. Nelson Morales, in addition to the senior researchers of the AMTC and academics of the DIMIN, Dr. Willy Kracht and Dr. Xavier Emery.
The event brought together professionals related to geological sciences and mine planning to exchange knowledge, experiences, working methods, and tools in a collaborative and multidisciplinary work environment.
At one of the opening sessions, researchers Nelson Morales and Raúl Castro discussed AMTC's advances in mine planning and underground mining. Dr. Morales, for his part, highlighted as achievements the MineRoc, DSim, and Doppler software, and the formation of advanced human capital, especially highlighting the Summer School in Mine Planning that already carries two versions. In addition, it addressed the specific areas in which the Delphos Laboratory works, such as direct block scheduling and geological uncertainty, medium-term planning, and material management and operational uncertainty. On the other hand, Dr. Castro highlighted projects such as numerical gravitational flow modeling in block caving to optimize its operations and the use of big data to predict mine behavior (in elements such as dilution, hangings, and water-mud flows) to assess risks more accurately.
Within the technical sessions, the Delphos Laboratory contributed with three presentations that include publication of articles in the book Proceedings:
- Valentina Rojas, Tomás González & Nelson Morales: Optimization of an Annual Mining Development Plan using Mathematical Programming.
- Josué González & Nelson Morales: Simulation and Optimization of Bench-Mining Sequences using Fully Mobile In-Pit Sizer and Conveyor Systems.
- Héctor González, Nelson Morales & Fabián Manríquez: Loading Equipment Planning Considering Optimization and Simulation for the Fulfilment of a Production Plan in Open Pit Mining.
