In October of this year, Fabián Manríquez, a doctoral candidate at the Delphos Mine Planning Laboratory, presented his work in the space that the Institute of Mining Engineers of Chile (IIMCh in Spanish) dedicates weekly to open seminars to the public at its headquarters. Under the title "Short-term planning in open pit mines optimizing multiple objectives", Fabián Manríquez presented the topic developing in his doctoral thesis for an hour.

In his presentation, he spoke of a method that relies on mixed whole linear programming to optimize multiple objectives in short-term mine planning in open pit mines; such objectives are: maximization of mineral and sterile tonnage compliance; minimization of maximum deviation between the mineral sent to the plant and the processing capacity of the plant, and minimization of movements between phases of the loading equipment.
