For one week, between November 11 and 15, 2019, Delphos Laboratory organized a new version of the annual Workshop on Mine Planning. The workshop participants were academics, researchers, and students (primarily postgraduate) from the universities of Antofagasta, Concepción and Talca, in Chile. Newcastle University (England), Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (Peru), Universidad Federal de Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) and Universidad Federal de Ouro Preto (Brazil) participated from abroad.

During the five working days, attendees were trained on the planning software tools developed by AMTC (DOPPLER, DSim, and UDESS). Subsequently, presentations were made on each Unit in search of new collaborations and joint work. Finally, the main results of the weekly work were presented on the last day.

The researchers and academics of each Unit involved were:

- Gonzalo Nelis, Fabián Manríquez, Luis Álvarez, Pierre Nancel-Penard, Nelson Morales and Enrique Jélvez (AMTC, University of Chile),

- Prof. David Meneses (University of Antofagasta),

- Prof. Asieh Hekmat, Juan Medina and Matías Pereira (University of Concepción)

- Prof. Manuel Reyes-Jara, Ricardo Moreno and Juan Escobar (University of Talca),

- Prof. Stefano Utili (Newcastle, Inglaterra)

- Prof. Giovanni Franco and Rodrigo Restrepo (UNAL, Colombia)

- Prof. Fabien Cornillier and Sebastián Granda (UTEC, Perú)

- Prof. Rodrigo Peroni and Bruno Kuckartz (UFRGS, Brasil)

- Prof. Carlos Arroyo and Luana Carvalho (UFOP, Brasil)

The Mine Planning Workshop is held every year. This is the first time that it has been given a purely academic approach within the Latin American network of collaboration and research in mine planning.

Pierre Nancel-Penard, researcher in charge of this initiative, gave his appreciation: “I want to thank the AMTC for the financing of this project, the School of Mines Engineering of the University of Chile for lending the place of the workshop, and to all the people who were involved in the organization, as well as the teachers and students who came to participate from Brazil, Colombia, Peru, England and other regions of Chile despite conditions after October 18th. In this meeting, I would like to highlight the motivation of the teachers and students who participated in the various software class activities conceived in Delphos laboratory, in the projects carried out during the workshop and presented by the students, as well as in the presentations of specific research topics by the researchers present. Multiple works or contacts carried out on this occasion will pay off in the coming months and years in terms of publication, participation in international conferences, and student exchange. Furthermore, this meeting fueled and enriched our research network on various mine planning topics. I would finally like to thank Professor Nelson Morales for allowing me to co-organize this event, which personally allowed me to develop my relationship capabilities, leaving me a pleasant feeling for the goal fulfilled overcoming difficult conditions”.
